Treatment of susceptible protozoal infections eg, amoebiasis, balantidiasis, Blastocystis hominis infections, giardiasis & trichomoniasis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Intestinal amoebiasisAdult 400-800 mg tid for 5-10 days. Childn 35-50 mg/kg daily in 3 divided doses for 5-10 days. TrichomoniasisAdult 2 g as a single dose or 600 mg-1 g in 2 or 3 divided doses for 7 days.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take w/ or after meals.
GI disturbances especially nausea & unpleasant metallic taste, furred tongue, glossitis & stomatitis, weakness, dizziness, ataxia, headache, drowsiness, insomnia & changes in mood or mental state eg, depression or confusion.
P01AB01 - metronidazole ; Belongs to the class of nitroimidazole derivatives antiprotozoals. Used in the treatment amoebiasis and other protozoal diseases.
